A

Fast drain comes from screen brightness, background apps, and old batteries losing capacity. Check battery health first, then cut the biggest power users.

Steps

  1. 1Check battery health report

Run 'powercfg /batteryreport' in Command Prompt and open the HTML report to see design vs full-charge capacity. Below 60% means replacement time.

  2. 2Lower brightness and timeouts

Set brightness to 50-60%, screen timeout to 3 minutes, and sleep to 10 minutes on battery.

  3. 3Limit background apps

Settings > Apps > Installed apps > background permissions: set social and shopping apps to Never on battery.

  4. 4Use Battery Saver

Turn on Battery Saver at 30% and switch the power mode to Best power efficiency.

  5. 5Unplug accessories

External drives, USB fans and RGB keyboards drain power - disconnect them on battery.

  6. 6Replace only with genuine batteries

If health is poor, buy from the brand service centre. Cheap duplicate batteries swell and damage laptops.

Good to know: A battery that drops from 40% to 0% instantly, or a trackpad that lifts, means a swollen battery - stop using it and get service.

FAQ

Should I keep the laptop plugged in always?

Modern laptops manage charging well, but enabling the 80% charge limit in the maker's app extends battery life.
