Android phones fill up mostly with WhatsApp media, offline videos, and cached app data. You rarely need to delete photos - clearing the right things recovers space safely.
Steps
1See what uses space
Go to Settings > Storage to see the breakdown. Tap each category to find the biggest items.
2Clean WhatsApp media
Open WhatsApp > Settings > Storage and data > Manage storage. Delete large forwarded videos first - they are usually duplicates.
3Clear app caches
Go to Settings > Apps, tap heavy apps like Facebook, TikTok and Chrome, then Storage > Clear cache (NOT Clear data).
4Remove offline downloads
Check YouTube, Spotify and TikTok downloads. Delete watched videos and old playlists.
5Move photos to the cloud
Turn on Google Photos backup, wait until backup completes, then use 'Free up space' to remove device copies.
6Delete duplicate files
Use the Files by Google app > Clean tab to remove duplicates, memes and blurry photos safely.
Good to know: Never tap 'Clear data' on banking, Khalti, eSewa or authenticator apps - you will be logged out and may need re-verification.
FAQ
Is an SD card a good fix?
