Too Many Ads and Popups? Clean Your Browser
New tabs open by themselves and fake 'virus' warnings appear. Remove adware and notification spam.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-09-15
Popup floods come from malicious extensions or sites granted notification permission. Neither requires reinstalling Windows - cleanup takes 10 minutes.
Steps
1Remove suspicious extensions
Open chrome://extensions (or browser equivalent) and remove anything you did not install yourself.
2Revoke notification permission
Browser Settings > Privacy > Site Settings > Notifications, and block spammy sites.
3Reset the browser
Use Settings > Reset settings to restore defaults. Your bookmarks stay.
4Run Windows Security scan
Do a full scan to catch the adware program behind the popups.
5Install a reputable ad-blocker
uBlock Origin from the official store blocks most malicious ad networks.
Good to know: Real antivirus companies never warn you through browser popups with a phone number. Those popups are always scams.
FAQ
Should I pay for antivirus?
