How to Receive International Payment in Nepal (Freelancers)
Legal ways to get paid from abroad: banks, remittance channels and platform payouts.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04
Freelancers get paid through proper channels: direct bank SWIFT, licensed remittance operators, or platform payouts (Upwork/Payoneer-style) to Nepali banks.
Steps
1Prefer bank-credited routes
SWIFT to your dollar/other-currency account or platform withdrawals create clean records for tax and proof of income.
2Compare total cost
Fees + FX margin + speed. A 'zero fee' channel with a bad rate often costs more.
3Keep every receipt
Invoices, transfer confirmations and bank credits - freelancers need paper trails for tax filing.
4Avoid grey channels
Hundi-style informal transfers are illegal and unrecoverable. If a deal needs secrecy, it's a scam.
Good to know: Ask your bank about freelancer/IT income accounts and documentation - rules and incentives change.
