How to Write a Cheque Correctly (Nepal): Figures, Words, Mistakes
Banks reject cheques for tiny errors: mismatched words and figures, overwriting, wrong dates, or signature differences. Write slowly and check twice.
Use the number-to-words tool on this site to get lakh/crore wording right, then copy it carefully onto the cheque.
- 1. Date it properly: Write the current date (BS or AD as your bank accepts). Post-dating is allowed deliberately; stale cheques (usually 6 months old) get rejected.
- 2. Payee name exactly: Full account name, no nicknames. Draw a line through leftover space so nothing can be added.
- 3. Figures box carefully: Write close to Rs printed, e.g. Rs 1,25,000/- with the dash. No gaps for extra digits.
- 4. Words line to match: Rupees One Lakh Twenty Five Thousand Only - must match figures exactly. Strike through remaining space.
- 5. Sign and cross: Sign exactly as per bank records. Two parallel lines on top-left make it account-payee (safest).
