How to Clear DNS Cache in Windows (ipconfig /flushdns)
Fix stale site loading and moved websites with one command.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04
Windows remembers old site addresses. After a site moves servers, your PC may keep visiting the dead one until the cache clears.
Steps
1Open Command Prompt
Press Win+R, type cmd, Enter. No admin needed for the basic flush.
2Run the flush
Type ipconfig /flushdns and Enter. 'Successfully flushed' confirms.
3Restart the browser
Close Chrome/Edge fully and reopen - browsers keep their own mini-cache.
4Also clear browser DNS
In Chrome visit chrome://net-internals/#dns and Clear host cache for stubborn cases.
Good to know: Flush after ISP changes, router swaps, or when a known-good site loads ancient content.
FAQ
How often?
Only when troubleshooting. Routine flushing achieves nothing.
