How to Check a Website SSL Certificate (Is It Safe?)
Padlock, certificate details, expiry and why warnings appear.

The padlock means encrypted - but check WHO it was issued to before typing passwords, especially on payment pages.
Steps
1Click the padlock
In any browser, click the lock icon > Connection secure > Certificate to see owner and issuer.
2Match the owner
Bank pages must show the bank's real organisation. Mismatched names mean leave immediately.
3Note the expiry
Expired certificates trigger warnings. Legit sites fix these in hours.
4Never bypass for banks
Proceed-anyway is only for your own test sites. For money, stop and verify through official channels.
Good to know: Phishing sites can also have padlocks - HTTPS proves encryption, not honesty. Check the DOMAIN name itself.
