A secure router setup takes 15 minutes and protects every device in your home. Do it once, properly.
Steps
1Connect and log in
Connect via cable or default Wi-Fi, then open 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and log in with the sticker credentials.
2Change the admin password
First change the router admin password so others on your network cannot reconfigure it.
3Set Wi-Fi name and strong password
Use WPA2/WPA3 with a 12+ character password. Avoid your name, number or 'password123'.
4Update firmware
Check for firmware updates in the admin panel for security fixes.
5Place and test
Place centrally, then walk room to room checking signal on your phone.
Good to know: Write the new admin and Wi-Fi passwords on paper kept with the router box - locked-out owners factory-reset unnecessarily.
