Driving Licence in Nepal: Written Test to Trial to Card
The full licence pipeline - form, medical, written exam, trial booking and smart card.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04
Getting a licence means clearing three gates: documents/medical, the written test, then the practical trial. Most failures happen at the trial from nerves, not skill.
Steps
1Apply with correct category
Bike, scooter, car and heavy categories differ. Apply for what you will actually ride - upgrades need fresh trials.
2Pass the written test
Study traffic signs, rules and signals. Practice sets plus the signs guide beat last-night cramming.
3Book and practise the trial
Visit the trial ground beforehand if allowed. Practise figure-8, ramps and signals until boring.
4Collect the smart card
Track printing status with your reference and collect with ID.
Good to know: Trial slots and fees revise. Confirm the current schedule at your DOTM office rather than trusting old videos.
